False "Christian Cliches" That Must Go
Bereans,
It is very important that believers be able to discern truth from falsehood. Our enemy, the devil, is the father of lies and his children are in the business of manufacturing and believing lies (John 8:44). The only way a child of Christ can discern truth from lies is to know the Word of God. It is the standard of truth, it is 100% true, and it is the ultimate judge of what is true and what is false (John 17:17; Psalm 119:160). This is why we place so much emphasis on knowing the Word of God, so that you can avoid being misled into sin (Psalm 119:104-105).
I came across this short Wretched Radio podcast recently where Todd Friel covers ten unbiblical cliches that Christians tend to use, such as "God helps those who help themselves." As he covers these, he also gives the correct biblical teaching on each subject. Listen to these, and if you use (or have used) any of them, be intentional about eliminating these false ideas from your vocabulary and make every effort to replace them with biblical terminology.

Our words impact others, but they also impact us. Out of the heart the mouth speaks (Luke 6:45). If we are filling our minds with false drivel from the culture, it will corrupt our thinking and will eventually manifest itself in our speech. Even though many of these may sound good, they promote false views of both God and man. However, if our source of information is Scripture, our words will be true, wise, and helpful to others (Psalm 49:30).
Grace and peace to you,
