Even the "Buildings" Will Cry Out
Bereans,
This Resurrection Day weekend, we are faced with the cold reality that our nation and society are turning farther away from the gospel and are embracing the lie that they can find answers within themselves. A recent survey found that only 39% of Americans are "serious" about their faith, which is almost half of what it was just a few years ago at the turn of the century. It is a far cry from the attitude toward Christ in 1956 when the owners of three New York City skyscrapers decided to observe Good Friday and Easter by lighting up their towers in the form of three crosses, as this historical photograph captures.

Just a few months ago, officials in New York asked the skyscrapers to light up in pink to celebrate the state's new laws that removed all abortion restrictions. In just over 60 years, they have gone from celebrating the Giver of Life to celebrating the murder of the most vulnerable lives. It is a sad turnaround.
However, these buildings remind me of the truth of Scripture, that even if man refuses to honor and worship the Lord, that the rocks themselves will cry out in praise (Luke 19:40). God providentially moved men to make these buildings--made of materials mined from the ground--praise Him for millions to see. He can and will do much greater than this when Jesus comes in all His glory, and every knee will finally bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord (Philippians 2:10-11)!
Grace and peace to you this Resurrection Weekend,
J.W.
