See the Times and Celebrate Christmas!
Bereans,
As we come to Christmas Day and approach the close of 2022, believers in Jesus Christ have much to celebrate. For one, the Lord's first advent is our hope of eternal salvation from the penalty of sin. Second, all the work He accomplished in His first advent is evidence that He will keep His promise to return. As that day nears, we see the words of Scripture fulfilled before our eyes as formerly healthy churches become apostate by adopting heresy after heresy. The "great falling away from the churches" is real and accelerating as the hard truths of the gospel become increasingly incompatible with the philosophies of our time (see 1 Thess. 5:20; 2 Tim. 3:1; 2 Tim. 4:3-4).
In response to declining attendance, weak and false churches are resorting to various gimmicks to draw people in (see first article below). It was easy for them to be "Christian" when Christianity was socially acceptable and more popular, but now that Christians are the social outcasts and there are no societal "benefits" to being a Christian, those along for the ride quickly hop off the bus. We shouldn't be surprised, as this is what the Word said would be. In fact, when Joseph and Mary took the baby Jesus to the Temple to be dedicated at eight days old, Simeon said that he "is appointed...for a sign to be opposed" (Luke 2:34).
Don't be surprised, Berean, when the world hates us and we lose their favor; they hated our Savior, too (see second article below). Be thankful that each day that passes is another day that confirms the glory and wonder of what Jesus did to pay the penalty we could not pay, and it's a day that brings us closer to His sure return!
