The Sanctity of Life, Part 1
Bereans,
This Sunday is Sanctity of Life Sunday in the United States, which we recognize every year on the Sunday closest to the anniversary of the Supreme Court's 1973 Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion nationwide. At the time, all fifty states had laws outlawing (or strictly regulating) abortion, both major political parties strongly opposed the practice, and public opinion was decidedly against it.
In fact, very few people at the time saw this decision coming and were caught flat-footed by it. Since then, over 64 million unborn babies have died in the womb. Most of us had lost hope that we would ever see this decision reversed in our lifetimes, yet 49 years later, the Lord providentially allowed that decision to be struck down in the Dobbs decision this past summer.
However, the battle has moved back to the states, and after 49 years of this barbaric practice being promoted by social, political, and even many religious institutions, the environment is much different. Now, this evil is celebrated by the media, financed by large corporations and insurance companies, zealously embraced by one of the two major political parties, and supported by a plurality of the population.
Removing this national sin will be much more difficult than getting a decision reversed in court. In fact, the proponents of abortion have become even more vocal, radicalized, and violent. They demand this as a right, and they will use any means necessary to secure it.
Christians must be ready to stand for the sanctity of life based on God's commands against murder (Exodus 20:13) and the fact that all humans are made in His image (Genesis 1:26-27). Unbelieving man hates God, loves death, and loves himself. For all these reasons, they will fight for their rights to do as they please, in the name of their own convenience, and in spite of what God says.
The following links are a compilation of articles I've been collecting over the past few months regarding abortion, and they have a particular emphasis on how dedicated these people are to the murder of the unborn. Bereans need to understand just how entrenched the opposition is, because they will not hesitate to persecute anyone who stands in their way. Each of these should alert you to the absolute zeal with which they desire self-pleasure and death. Pray for your enemies, as they are deeply deceived and are storing up wrath against themselves (Romans 2:5-6).
