OUR SCRIPTURAL FOUNDATION

Our Beliefs Concerning God

  • Jesus Christ is Lord and Master and will be the focus of all preaching and teaching. (Matthew 16:16; John 20:31; 1 Corinthians 2:2; 1 Timothy 2:5)
  • God is sovereign in man’s salvation.  (John 1:12-13; 15:16; Ephesians 1:3-6, 11; 1 John 4:10)
  • He is the same yesterday, today, and forever; therefore, He does not change to accommodate man.  (Hebrews 13:8; Isaiah 26:4; Job 23:13; Psalm 115:3)
  • When He is lifted up, He will draw all men unto Him; therefore, He does not “adapt” to man’s ways and means to build His church.  (John 6:44; 12:32; Romans 11:33-36; Isaiah 55:11)

Our Beliefs Concerning God’s Word

  • His Word, not man’s opinion, will always be the final authority for all decision making.  (2 Peter 1:20; 1 Corinthians 2:4-5; 2 Timothy 2:14-17)
  • The Bible does not contain the Word of God, it is the Word of God.  (John 1:1-2; 17:17; Revelation 19:13; 2 Timothy 3:16)
  • Doctrinal purity is a priority.  (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 1 Timothy 1:3-7; Titus 2:1-8; Proverbs 4:2)
  • It is infallible and inerrant.  (2 Samuel 22:31; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; John 17:17)
  • His Word contains the answers to all our problems.  (Romans 15:4; 1 Corinthians 2:11-13)
  • We will be careful to always maintain the integrity of its context.  (Revelation 22:18-19; Deuteronomy 4:2; Proverbs 30:5-6; 2 Timothy 2:15)

Our Beliefs Concerning Individual Members of Our Congregation

  • We are set apart from the world—meaning we have clearly defined boundaries.  (2 Corinthians 6:17a; Acts 19:9; 1 John 2:15; Psalm 119:98)
  • Our purpose is to do God’s will, not to please men.  (Matthew 22:37-38; Galatians 1:10; John 7:17-18; Acts 5:29; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
  • We are committed to living holy lifestyles, by which Christian truth is made evident to the world around us.  (Micah 6:8; Matthew 5:16; James 1:22; 2:2-4; Matthew 5:48; 1 John 2:4)
  • We are committed to practicing a personal study of God’s Word.  (Psalm 119:2, 11, 15-16, 98-104; 2 Timothy 2:15)
  • We are committed to training our children in righteousness through His Word.  (Deuteronomy 6:4-9; Proverbs 22:6; Isaiah 59:21; Ephesians 6:1-4; 2 Timothy 3:15)

Our Beliefs Concerning the Church

  • We affirm and will enforce church discipline, among leaders and members, acknowledging that her power comes in her purity, both in doctrine and in practice.  (Matthew 18:15-20; John 8:32; 1 Corinthians 5:9-13; 2 Corinthians 2:5-11; Hebrews 12:11-13)
  • We are committed to regular prayer and fasting as a body.  (Matthew 6:16-18; Ephesians 6:18; Philippians 4:6; 1 Thessalonians 5:17)
  • Preaching and teaching must conform to the whole counsel of God.  (Psalm 119:9; John 8:31-32; 16:13; Romans 16:17-18)
  • Mission activities are prioritized to our community first, then our region, then our nation, then the world.  (Acts 1:8; Matthew 28:19-20)
  • True corporate praise and worship is God-centered and not designed to suit men’s tastes or traditions.  (John 4:24; Acts 2:42, 46-47; 1 Corinthians 14:33, 40; Ephesians 5:19-20)
  • Our church leaders will meet the Biblical qualifications.  (Malachi 2:7; 1 Timothy 3:2-13; 1 Peter 5:1-4)

Our Beliefs Concerning Finances

  • The Old Testament model for stewardship is the tithe—10% of gross income—plus offerings that were freely given. The New Testament does not specify an amount or percentage, but focuses on the attitude of the giver. To specify an amount or percentage would place the church under law and could lead to condemnation for those who do not conform, and self-righteousness for those who do. However, we believe that Christians, whose privileges are so much greater and to whom heaven is opened by Christ’s death and ascension, should offer no less a proportion of all their income to the Lord’s cause than did the Israelite.  (2 Corinthians 9:7; Hebrews 12:28; Genesis 14:18-20; Leviticus 27:30; Malachi 3:8-10)
  • We will not borrow money to finance our operations, programs, or buildings.  (Romans 13:8; Proverbs 22:7, 26-27)
  • All financial needs will be met through tithes and offerings.  (Exodus 35:4-5; 36:6-7)
  • We will provide for individuals within our church body who are in financial or physical need.  (Acts 2:44-45; 4:34-35; 1 John 3:17-18)
